Matthew's sonet for his English class

Alamo, 2009 by Matthew Swensen

From my lips flow a tale for thee to sort
Remember, remember what thou hath learned
With blood spilt for freedom, we hath yearned
Santa Anna demanded surrender of thy fort
Travis replied with a cannon's retort
Asked of men, with line in sand, life and death to discern
Before the mission wouldst try to burn.
Hoping the enemy, they would thwart.

12 nights of siege, anticipation escalating
Two charges repelled with the common man's life
The third, overwhelmed with freedom's strife
What a painful cost for liberty's breath
All men gave their lives, every last hope, fighting
Victory or Death!

He had to follow a certain AB pattern for the rhyming words. We pulled out the Texas history book and he pulled facts from the Alamo chapter. 2 hours later, he had a poem ready to turn in. I am curious to see what he gets on his paper.
