Hurrican Hermine

We didn't even know there was a hurricane out in the gulf. I noticed that the weather thing that comes up on my google homepage showed rain for the end of the week but that doesn't mean a hurricane. This hurricane caught everyone off guard.

This is outside the school where the twins attend. This is the carpool line to drop off kids in the morning. At this point it had been raining for about 18 hours. We had gotten about 9 inches of rain at our house. The low water crossing that is just down the street from here was at the 1ft mark. As I was leaving the school the city was out in force putting up the barricades at all the water crossings.
I don't know why the roads are designed like they are. The creeks just go across the road. The road dips down to allow the water to cross. We are prone to flash flooding.

This is at the River Road Park. The river is usually about 6-8 ft away from this pick nick table.

This is down by the waterfall on River Rd. It was so cool to watch the water rise. As I was taking pictures, I was asked to leave. I got in my car to leave and I decided to look back. The river was rising up over the banks. The police and city were trying to shut down the road before anyone got hurt. Some tree branches had also fallen where a group of us had been standing to get pictures.
Down the road a little is an intersection where the river crosses under. When the river came up it flooded that intersection. Normally that would be ok (other than being a nuisance). Except, our town has 2 high schools. They are about 2 miles apart. The high schools share teachers. For some of the classes the students are bused back and forth between the schools. Well, some of the Champion kids were at Boerne for class and the river came up. They could not get back to Champion and vise versa. The students just hung out at the high school they were at until the water went down. Some kids were not able to get home for several hours because the buses couldn't run in some of the rural areas.

This is the creek in our neighborhood. It actually has a pretty good size pipe that runs under the road. The water very rarely comes up over the road.

This is the creek on the other side of the road. I had the thought of getting little boats and floating them. It would have been to dangerous and the boys were at school.
