Physics Boat Project

Rebecca and 2 of her friends had to build a boat out of cardboard, plastic bags, and duct tape for their physics class project.  They had to float this boat, with all of them in it, across the Boerne City Pool  and back (50 meter).  Collectively they weighed about 450 lbs.

They got these card board tube cement forms and taped them to the side of the boat.

When Rebecca got home from school that day, she said that they should get extra credit for making a submarine instead of a boat.  As soon as they put the boat in the water but hadn't even climbed in yet, the boat started filling up with water.  They made it across the pool and back.  By the time they made it back the water was up to Rebecca's armpits but it did not sink. The cardboard tubes saved them.   They got a 100% for their grade.
